Donetsk Region: Ukrainian Armed Forces and National Guard enter Sviatohirsk

Ukrainian Defence Forces have entered Sviatohirsk, Donetsk Oblast, and are conducting a clearing operation in the area.

Details: Ukrainska Pravda’s source says the forces that have entered the area are servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard’s Serhiy Kulchytsky Operational Battallion.

Neither the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces nor the Ministry of Defence have made any official announcements yet.

 

Photos have appeared on social media showing the Ukrainian flag flying above the door of the city council, National Guard soldier Vitalii Markiv, and the slogan "We are in Sviatohirsk".

Background: The city of Sviatohirsk in Donetsk Oblast was occupied by Russian forces, but the Sviatohirsk Lavra [monastery], located on the other side of the Siverskyi Donets River, remained under Ukrainian control.
