'Grand Theft Auto' and 'Red Dead' online games shut down for two hours in honor of George Floyd
Online games will take a pause on Thursday to honor the legacy of George Floyd.
Rockstar Games, parent company of the "Grand Theft Auto" and "Red Dead" game series, gave a two-hour notice on Twitter to players. From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, the company will be shutting down access to "Grand Theft Auto Online" and "Red Dead Online."
After protests over the killing of George Floyd while in Minnesota police custody erupted around the nation, many brands have taken the rare step of weighing in.
The gaming company prefaced its announced with a clear statement of support: "Black Lives Matter."
Black Lives Matter. To honor the legacy of George Floyd, today, 6/4/20, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. ET, we will be shutting down access to our online games, Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online.

While some brands have taken a more subtle approach to show support, like only posting a black square on Tuesday, others have taken it a step further, like the ice cream company Ben & Jerry's calling for an end to the "culture of white supremacy."
USA TODAY reached out to Rockstar Games to verify the frequency of the shut downs or any any other efforts players should be aware of.
