Philadelphia Eagles hold visit with Washington wide receiver John Ross

Running a record setting 4.22 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Combine, Washington wide receiver John Ross has rocketed into stardom. While he didn’t win the highly publicized island that Adidas had promised — due to the fact that Ross wore Nike shoes — Ross has found something better. A first round draft stock.

Initially seen this offseason as the third, fourth, or even fifth best wide receiver in this draft class, John Ross has now cleared all doubt about his ability and speed. Now seen by most as a definite first round selection in this April’s NFL Draft, Ross may even be the first wide receiver taken this year. That said, it looks like the Philadelphia Eagles are hoping he remains in the middle of the first round.

Between his Pro Day at the University of Washington and his upcoming shoulder surgery, Ross found the time to meet with the offensive brains in Philadelphia. Meeting with offensive coordinator Frank Reich, wide receivers coach Mike Groh, and head coach Doug Pederson, it appears that the Eagles are extremely interested in potentially making Ross their first round pick.

Besides his blazing fast speed, John Ross is a talented wide receiver. Possessing almost all the intangibles you look for in a wide receiver, Ross is not going to be someone who goes up and gets the football but just blaze’s right past the defensive back and into the open field. Also scoring top marks at the combine for his broad jump, Ross is a supreme athletic specimen.

While some in the league today prefer to compare him to current Texans wide receiver Will Fuller due to his small size at 5’11 and only 188 pounds, a much better comparison could be made for Eagles fans. John Ross could be the second coming of wide receiver DeSean Jackson due to his speed and ability. Needing a player like this, Ross would be a great addition to the Eagles roster.

The draft pick would also likely overjoy Ross as he is a big fan of Jackson’s. Becoming an Eagles fan when the team drafted DeSean Jackson, Ross would have a shot at helping turn Philadelphia back into a winning team. Pairing him up with quarterback Carson Wentz, the Eagles could have a winning combination for their offense.
