- [INAUDIBLE]. Oh! [LAUGHS]

JARED QUAY: Yesterday was opening day for Major League Baseball.

- Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

JARED QUAY: At least it should've been.

- Oh, man.

JARED QUAY: But because of COVID-19, all we got is dads taking their kids deep on Twitter.

- Home run, baby.

JARED QUAY: Until today. That's 'cause we asked Yahoo Sports' own Chris Cwik to simulate the first day of the season with a video game. Later, I'll bring him on for a deep dive on what we learned. But first, we got good news.

Football doesn't start for five months, but Drew Brees already dropped his first bomb. The Saints' QB is donating 5 million to pandemic relief efforts. The money will provide 10,000 meals every day to needy residents in Louisiana. And that's a whole lot of beignets. Word is the NBA's going to do something similar. To avoid widespread layoffs, the league's top-earning executives, including commissioner Adam Silver, will take a 20% pay cut. The NBA just gets it. Sometimes you got to sacrifice your yacht money to keep your company running.

And while we're handing out good news, here's some more. You want baseball? Well, damn it, you're going to get it. It's Fauxpening Day 2020.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Yesterday was a thrilling day of baseball around America. Matt Surchuck threw a complete game shutout, Christian Yelich hit two dogs for the Brew crew.

- And it's gone.

JARED QUAY: But no one-- I repeat, no one-- had a better day than Yankees center fielder Aaron Hicks. He went 5 for 5, and already racked up a 0.5 [INAUDIBLE]. To discuss all of this, the man who pressed simulate himself on his PS4-- Chris Cwik. Chris, what does Aaron Hicks' dominant start to the season mean for the Yankees?

CHRIS CWIK: It doesn't mean anything, Jared. It's a video game. This isn't real.

JARED QUAY: Thanks, Chris. Love that guy. If you're like Chris and prefer baseball a little less virtual, you can watch Phillies manager Joe Girardi open baseball cards with Mike Oz, or read about your favorite players' opening day memories all on the internet site yahoosports.com. And finally, it ain't Fauxpening Day without a few ballplayers. They may not be strapping them up, but, whether they're raising money for charity, like Trevor Bauer, or live-streaming "Fortnite," like Blake Snell--

BLAKE SNELL: Bro, that is so lame!

JARED QUAY: --if it's on the web, it'll be on our Rona Diaries.
