‘MasterChef Junior’: I Like the Cut of Your Giblets

Chicken is one of the most versatile proteins in the world. There are countless recipes from almost every culture and so many ways a good chef can turn a chicken breast or the wings or the legs into an amazing meal. But what’s the fun in watching that? A great chef can do the same thing with the giblets — and that’s the challenge someone is facing this week on MasterChef Junior.

First, the chefs will have to break down a chicken. Then the winner of that challenge will get to decide who gets to cook with which cut of the bird for the main round. It’s a high-pressure situation, so of course, somebody has to lighten the mood. As it turns out, all it takes to get a room full of kids giggling is to have a Michelin-starred chef pretend to pick his nose with a chicken foot. Who says primetime television can’t be educational?

‘MasterChef Junior’ airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
